Amy Regan & Hertz

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Take a look at that — the artist is more the focus of this video than the product.

That’s what I’m talking about!  Mad props to Amy Regan and Hertz for putting this together.  After all, without the art we’d be nowhere…

Check our friend Amy out @ Rockwood Music Hall March 22, 8 PM!

eMusicBlast sounds cool and all …

but can’t the fans act as a better judge to whether or not the music/artists will last in the marketplace?  Isn’t it a little late for this type of model?

eMusicBlast offers a solid scouting service to artists that don’t have the reach to get to those at the “top” of labels; I guess my question is whether or not bands should shell out $49 for “a promise” of “at least 30+ words of written feedback.”  And I thought A&R people went out (in the real world or online) to find artists.  Since when should the musicians be spending time paying an exec to listen, when they can be playing clubs and getting an exponential amount of fans live and online…?

Last time I checked, fans can give you more words and support than that on their own accord…I mean, they’re the ones that will still be spooning you at the end of a bad record deal or dropped option.

Let me know if I’m missing something. And I may be semi-embarrassed for the guys in this promo video. No offense…

Terry McBride reads my mind

Hells yea.  The files are going to become too cumbersome, and the music industry will return to its rightful place, becoming an experience-based business once again.

I can’t wait for “context to become king.”

Some warranted thoughts…country people listen up!

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

I’m listening to the most country music I’ve ever listened to in my music-listening days (which has been all my life). I am proud to admit that I currently listen to Lee Ann Womack. Thank you to, Annie, who brought me out of my shell.

Back in the day (I’m 25, so ‘back in the day’ is ten years ago) I hated country; however, since I moved to New York City, I feel I’ve re-discovered my country roots.   I guess some things I’ve been through make me feel closer to country — it’s a genre that’s always been about truthfulness and the artists that write such music sacrifice a lot.  I mean, seriously, listen to some Johnny Cash and you’ll realize how honest the genre is.  Try to argue with me about that fact…

Seriously…it’s about leading an emotional life…
